No Cake

I don’t get a cake on my birthday. I don’t get to blow over 40 candles and “spray” some of my DNA on the entire confection. I see that a lot on television.

Don’t get me wrong. I have a sweet tooth and would love to receive decorated sweetmeats. This is the one day in the year that I feel like a little child, all giddy and excited for what’s in store for me on my special day. I bask in the loving attention and well wishes from my family and friends. I just don’t get cake. I guess birthday traditions simply vary among different folks.

Instead, I am served with a large plate of noodles fondly prepared by my family. I look forward to this particular treat every year because it reminds me that I am appreciated.

I just turned a year older a week ago. Thank you once again for the shower of love.
